Most people when asked what it means to be off grid would say "not being connected to the electricity grid" but I think it means a lot more than that nowadays.
Breaking free from the power companies is certainly one thing you can do but I am more interested in distancing myself from the majority of big business including the water company, supermarkets, insurance companies and government to name a few.
I would love to grow a good proportion of my food and get the rest from local producers or barter with other off gridders, collect my water from the sky and the land, deal with my own waste, generate the little electricity we need and basically be as self reliant as possible.
To what extent would you like to take your off gridness?
